Downtown Tyler is so beautiful and full of great local businesses and landmarks that the public may not be too familiar with. That is our highlight in this "Downtown” series where we visit these locations and introduce them to you!

This week, Cindi Featherston-Shields leads a video tour of the Smith County Historical Society, one of these landmarks.

The Smith County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1959 to preserve the rich history of the county and to pass that history on to the community. It is housed in the former Carnegie Library, Tyler’s first public library, built in 1904 as one of the many libraries built across the country by steel magnate Andrew Carnegie.

Capturing the history of Tyler and Smith County, the Historical Society not only houses some of the most amazing items from our distant past, but also amazing artwork done locally as well! This is certainly a must see, and something the whole family can enjoy!

Check back for the next episode of Downtown with Cindi, your community expert, as she explores what makes Tyler such a unique and special place to live and work!
